Mr. Yoshinori Shimatani is the 4th generation craftsman of this studio which has lasted over 100 years called, “Shimatani Shouryu” making Buddhist bells known as “Orin”. This Shouryu has three craftsmen of their 10 who can produce Orin all over Japan.

He tunes the bell by hammering the metal to adjust the roundness.  His sense and technique makes incredible sounds that resonate through your body. As a result of his efforts, Mr. Shimatani has received government approval as a traditional craftsman.

Mr. Shimatani created the tin plate known as Suzugami (Bendable Tin Paper) made of 100 percent pure tin which is growing in popularity.  Tin is originally very soft and was commonly hardened by blending with silver and copper.  However, Mr. Shimatani successfully developed a better quality, 100 percent pure tin by making pressure on the metal. He also found out that it gains strength with hammering.  This is why Suzugami is said to be produced by the “hitting with a hammer technique”.  Rhythmic striking with a hammer creates the unique Suzugami with beautiful patterns.  You can enjoy bending Suzugami into your own shapes because it is 100 percent pure tin.
